How do we get there by public transport?

Easiest route: train to Flinders Street, then any tram down St Kilda Road - the stop is right outside (High Street and Union Street stops are both wheelchair-accessible raised platforms). Bus 246 stops nearby at Punt Road and Union Street. Many crew use the trip itself as travel training with their coach or support worker.
